Conclusions

This is a good lens - it’s well made and, for a zoom, performs very well. As usual with tele zoom lenses it’s best at the shorter end, but the Sigma 135-400 is still OK at 400mm.  With most digital SLR’s 400mm is equivalent to 600mm on film, where many other factors will impact on sharpness of results, before the slight softness at full aperture really becomes an issue. I suspect most peoples use will centre on the 200-300mm range where performance is very good.
