The Nikon AF 85mm f1.8 is an excellent lens for film and a very good one for digital. It doesn’t feel as well made as I would expect from Nikon, but over many years of professional use I’ve never had any problems with either of the examples I’ve owned. Optical quality is excellent although actual sharpness is good rather than outstanding. What is exceptional is the look the lens delivers.
I’m not sure if it will be obvious from the image shown below, but I use the windows as a test subject because most lenses struggle with the high contrast and sharply defined edges of the frames. Results with digital SLR’s tend to look harsh and unpleasant. Few lenses manage to make such a mundane subject look nice, or attractive. The Nikon 85mm f 1.8 does.
