	Canon Digital Photo Professional is supplied with all Canon digital SLR cameras and is a much better package than most manufacturer’s offerings. It now has built in noise reduction. Version tested 2.1.1.4

		Overall layout isn’t great - both the preview window and the control panel float over the main browser window.

Canon Digital Photo Professional seems to have all you’ll ever need but although all the basic controls are there and results are good at lower ISO’s the interface is confusing and a speedy workflow isn’t easy. Despite being improved over earlier versions, and better than most “free with the camera” packages - Digital Photo Professional isn’t nearly as good as RawShooter, Bibble or Capture One. Compared to them it starts to look clumsy and slow. The introduction of noise reduction should be a real bonus in a free package like this, but both the implementation and the results are about the worst out there.




		Program preferences panel where you’ll find the noise reduction controls - No nice sliders or instant previews here.


		The integration of the new noise reduction controls is very confusing. I was left scanning the controls thinking, OK Canon Digital Photo Professional where’s the noise reduction then? Only after looking in the help files - always a last resort - did I discover that the noise reduction controls are buried in the program preferences menu and aren’t visible when you’re processing images. I wonder who thought that was a good idea?
