f 5.6: By f 5.6 I’d expect a lens like this to be excellent overall and although the 28-70 f2.8L is excellent in the centre it still lags a bit behind in the corners. Again over most of the field it’s fine but there seems to be a fairly steep drop in resolution towards the corners. My corner crops aren’t from the very extreme corners, they’re taken from an area just slightly inside the corner - Testing - Image quality really right in the corner is slightly strange. I cover this in more detail here - Canon EOS 5D Image quality The good news is that f5.6 brings much more even illumination and the harder edged vignetting in the extreme corners is gone.
